This month's lineup features three ladies who are both good friends and favorites on the folksinger and songwriter scene, just for starters, but who have also carved out careers in other realms. Lisa Aschmann is a favorite of song-lovers everywhere, in blues, jazz, folk, bluegrass, country, pop, world music ... you name it, and Lisa's either written there or can do so as you sit there. Janne Henshaw presents a clear and lilting voice, a story-teller's ear for words, and a broad travel history at home and abroad. And Diana Jones, the "rookie" as far as this venue is concerned, brings her own unique sound and perspective to this very special round. As always, the best way to find out is to come out, and see and hear for yourself!

Lisa Aschmann has been writing songs since 1982. Originally from California, she left a noted career as an astrophysicist and moved to Nashville in the mid-1990s, where she has led a non-stop life as a songwriter for film,.television and the pop and country charts ever since.

All told, she has written over 4,000 songs, with over 400 of them being cut, from independent projects, to TV and film placements, to major label artists, including Collin Raye, Diamond Rio, Art Garfunkel, Aaron Neville, The Little River Band and, most recently, Chicago.

She has also co-written with such notable artists as Michael Johnson, Karen Taylor-Good, Tom Kimmel, Celeste Krenz, Irene Kelly, Dana Cooper, Joel Evans, John Tirro, Nancy Conescu, Marcus Hummon and Guy Clark.

As a solo artist, Lisa has now published six CDs, in a range of styles from folk to jazz to Bluegrass.

In addition, she is a published book-author, including a well-respected volume of creativity exercises for songwriters, 500 Songwriting Ideas for Brave and Passionate People, published in 1994.

From her website: "Offering her listeners a rare gift of original songs with uncommon depth and beauty infused with time-honored values of traditional American Music, Diana Jones has been called the new Emily Dickinson. Like Dickinson, Diana's work is informed by the themes that have run through her life-love, loss, and redemption. From the mournful lament of a dance hall girl, to the stomping melodic rant of a young woman's burial instructions, each of Diana's original songs from her latest CD, My Remembrance of You, draws life from the rich cross currents of country, country blues and mountain music.

The result is vibrant, contemporary music with a gritty and timeless feel. Adopted as an infant and raised in New York, Diana left home at the age of 15 in search of her roots. Unlike her friends, Diana was attracted to the music of Johnny Cash and Patsy Cline, as well as contemporary artists Emmylou Harris and Dolly Parton. It wasn't’t until she was reunited with her birth family and the music of the Eastern Tennessee hills some years later, that she discovered why that music had always moved her. She honed her songwriting and performing skills in the fertile Austin music scene where she released her first recording, Imagine Me. The critical acclaim and grass roots following that sprung up around this release caught the interest of Hamstien Publishing and Diana signed a deal to record her second record, The One That Got Away.

She returned to the northeast seeking time to heal from the loss of her beloved grandfather, Robert Lee Maranville, who as a young man performed with Chet Atkins among others. The isolation led Diana to write from a deeper place, and after some serious wood shedding, she emerged with some of the most honest songs of her life. My Remembrance of You, released March 21, 2006, is the first record on the NewSong Recordings label.

Gar Ragland, director of the Mountain Stage NewSong Festival, invited Diana to be the first artist on the new label after seeing her perform. "Without question, Diana Jones is one of the most talented Americana artists I have heard in years. Her music cuts straight to the soul with the economy of small batch bourbon," Ragland said. The record includes stellar musicians like Ferron on harmony vocals, Jay Ungar on fiddle and Duke Levine on mandolin and various guitars. Diana's involvement with NewSong Recordings has opened many doors, including an appearance of the nationally syndicated radio and TV show Mountain Stage.

With Diana busy touring and promoting, My Remembrance of You continues to gain new listeners and rave reviews. She has shared the stage with Martina McBride, Del McCoury Band, Guy Clark, Darrell Scott, Odetta, Old Crow Medicine Show and John Gorka among others. Diana has won several songwriting awards including the recent 2006 Kerrville New Folk Contest.

Janne (pronounced 'Jan') Henshaw is a highly acclaimed singer and songwriter, who has been described as a "powerhouse singer" with "an angelic voice like Nanci Griffith, but with less nasality"(Indianapolis Star). Her original songs have won her 2 awards at the prestigious Chris Austin Songwriting contest at Merlefest and a NewFolk honor at the Kerrville Festival in Texas.

Her new CD Drifter's Prayer features several of her originals as well as standout performances by such noted musicians as Jeff White, Rob Ickes, Andrea Zonn and John Mock. Janne grew up in Michigan, performing classical, folk and country music. Her college studies led to degrees in both Music and in Folklore/Ethnomusicology.

A 6-month stay in Norway and travels in Ireland and the southeastern mountain areas of the U.S. strengthened her interest in traditional music, which flavors many of her songs. She has toured extensively throughout the U.S.and Europe, captivating audiences with her warm presence and moving songs.

She has been featured on many radio programs, including The Woodsongs Old Time Radio Hour, Homefront Performances and Bound for Glory.

A perfectly compelling voice" -- Radio Kerry, Ireland
